Allium Hollandicum ‘Purple Sensation’ (16 Bulbs)

Why we love it:

• Alliums are a beautiful, ornamental addition to any garden, with their attractive heads flowering after the tulips
• Allium Purple Sensation is probably the most popular allium to grow, with densely packed umbels of deep rich violet, star-shaped flowers that give colour and shape to the border in late spring and summer
• These bulbs are perfect for a sunny border and are ideal planted amongst grasses or herbaceous perennials to mask the strap like leaves which can look a little untidy as they die back
• The Royal Horticultural Society has given this allium its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM) in recognition of its outstanding excellence
• It makes a lovely cut flower, and the dried seed heads are also very attractive. You can even spray them gold or silver and use as a Christmas decoration

• Alliums will grow in any average soil, doing even better in rich, well-drained soil. Placing small groups of 3 to 5 bulbs in a low-growing planting creates a stunning effect

• Position where other plants will help to hide their often untidy foliage
